Game Report

The Canadiens gave up 40+ shots, again. Carey Price was outstanding and delivered a win.

Is there anyone left who truly believes the false narrative that Michel Therrien is a ‘defensive coach?’ The MT-system is simply to write in No. 31 on the lineup sheet, padding his coaching record with victories earned on back of Carey Price.

This recipe is not sustainable.

The coach will continue to make tweaks, changing lines or moving players in and out of the press box as if it matters. But the fundamental system does not work effectively in today’s NHL. Until the system changes, Canadiens fans cannot be confident that their team has equally contributing parts. And the system won’t change, until someone else holds the head coaching mantle.

The Canadiens received an inspiring pre-game speech from legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus. And they continue to receive the best goaltending on the planet from Price. Yet, one performance is not that dissimilar from another.

Canadiens fans are not stupid. They see the writing on the wall and are very concerned.  So when Therrien points to the team’s record and says “We have to calm down a little bit” the effect is just the opposite of what the coach wishes.

Coach Michel Therrien

Paul Byron

  • “I grew up with the Habs-Bruins rivalry. My dad was a Bruins fan. My older brother was a Leafs fan. I watched a lot of Saturday night Hockey Night in Canada games. Coming to Montreal, I knew how big this rivalry was.”
  • “Playing the Bruins, it’s a special game. You’ve got to relish these opportunities. When you play a team like that, it kind of feels like a playoff game.”

Max Pacioretty

  • “Not perfect. Take the two points. But get back to work tomorrow.”

Alexander Radulov

  • On giving up 43 shots a game: “Corey is not an ironman.”

Carey Price

  • At seeing Jack Nicklaus in the dressing room: “It kinda threw me off. I was awestruck. I don’t get awestruck very often.”
