The Canadiens acquired Brent’s Sopel from the Atlanta Thrashers today. Brent’s wife Kelly authors a blog titled “Life of a Hockey Widow THE DAY-TO-DAY LIFE OF “THE SOPELS” AN NHL WIFE AND FAMILY.”
Off to Montreal He Goes…
“Sopes is VERY excited to be in Montreal! To be in the play-off race is what it’s all about. I know he will give his all when he steps on the ice each night, just like he’s always done. On Saturday night, when he steps on the ice, I will be the proud wife in the stands!! GO SOPES #55!”

Brent Sopel Mic’d Up
I hope they don’t bug Sopel’s wife with language stupidity and leave her blog (and his twitter) ALONE!
Being an anglophone I hope I don’t upset anyone by saying that the fact they sang the national anthem in English only did irk me. The official anthem is the bilingual one and it should be sang that way no matter where you are in the country, but that’s just my opinion.
As for the American anthem, they probably did it because the game was being broad-casted on NBC and they want to see if they can get good ratings in case there is an NFL lockout they will have a Plan B. I heard they are working on a deal with Versus to show NHL games next season, just in case. But that I don’t agree with that, correct me if I’m wrong but I didn’t hear them play the Canadian anthem at the Washington/Pittsburgh winter Classic…
