► Younger is better? Jordan Subban is a defenseman for the minor midget Toronto Marlboros who, on Sunday afternoon, won the OHL Cup. Jordan is also the 16-year old brother of Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban. Jordan is expected to be picked in the top five in the upcoming OHL draft.
Ken Campbell, for The Hockey News, writes:
OHL scouts contend that while the two brothers look very similar when they play, Jordan’s game is far more refined than P.K.’s was when he was 16. P.K. was a sixth round pick to the Belleville Bulls in 2005, largely because his talent was so raw.
“When P.K. was that age, you had no idea what he was going to do,” one OHL scout said. “He didn’t play for as good a team and he was always running around his own zone trying to do everything. Jordan is a little more offense-minded than P.K. was as well.”

► Coach’s empty toolbox: CTV Montreal sports columnist Ted Bird is baffled by some of the decisions made by Canadiens coach Jacques Martin as well as his recent inaction.
“The most puzzling element of the current team slump is that coach Jacques Martin has basically stuck with the same line combinations throughout.
This is a guy who normally shakes things up on lesser whims than a change in wind direction.
Tomas Plekanec has had nearly as many linemates this season as the late Elizabeth Taylor had husbands.”

► Cammy speaks: Vancouver Sun writer Ian Walker interviewed Canadiens forward Mike Cammalleri where he answered questions about hockey and topics beyond the puck world.
“Do you remember your third hat trick?
Will never forget it. Montreal against New York. It was the 100th anniversary of the Habs.
That must have been something else.
Crazy, if not the most memorable night of my hockey career so far. It was too surreal -the people that were there, the alumni, the crowd, the celebration of what it meant to those people and our game -it’s hard to describe. It still gives me goosebumps.”

► Doom and gloom: Sean Gordon of the Globe and Mail looks at the doomsday scenario for the remote possibility of the Canadiens missing the playoffs.
“So here’s a cheery thought for Montreal Canadiens fans fulminating over the recent goalless drought: if the Habs lose against Atlanta on Tuesday at home, they go into Carolina on Wednesday (the second of back-to-back games for both teams) knowing that a loss would tip them into a furious late-season scramble to get into the postseason.
Has anyone considered the possibility the Habs would have to win in Toronto on the last day of the season to make the playoffs?”
Mathias Brunet has also a feature column (in French) on P.K.’s other younger brother Malcolm, goalie for the Bulls of Belleville in the OHL (same team as P.K).
11th round pick for Belleville, the 16 year-old goalie is ranked 10th in the OHL. Scouts report that he should be among the top 10 players drafted from the OHL in 2012.
While the younger Subban is more reserved, Malcom is said to have his older sibling’s personality.
