►Habs prospect shines in defeat: Greg Pateryn had one of the most memorable games of his college career but it wasn’t enough as his Michigan Wolverines lost the NCAA title game to University of Minnesota-Duluth. UMD Bulldogs beat the Wolverines 3-2 in overtime. Pateryn finished the game at plus-1 with an assist and was responsible for sending the game to overtime.
Pateryn, a 6-3, 215 lb. junior defenseman was obtained from the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Mikhail Grabovski trade.
“Particularly in the second-half of the year, [Pateryn] has just been as solid as a rock, somebody who has played like a senior and not a junior, a take charge kind of guy,” Michigan assistant coach Billy Powers said. “He’s on the ice, he wants to make a difference, he wants to have the puck. I can’t say enough about him.”

►Hockey trumps politics: In Canada, we have our priorities straight — and politicians know it. The French debate of Federal party leaders was scheduled for Thursday April 14 until the NHL playoff schedule was announced. The debate was on a head-on collision with Game 1 of the Montreal Canadiens – Boston Bruins quarterfinal playoff series.
It was starkly obvious that in a battle for TV viewers the politicians couldn’t compete against hockey. The federal parties wisely agreed to reschedule the debate to Wednesday, one day after the English language debate.
