CBC News release

October 20, 2011 – One of the toughest NHL players in history, Chris “Knuckles” Nilan, will help decide the fate of the next pair that will most certainly be “iced” from BATTLE OF THE BLADES next week. The judging panel, made up of Nilan as Guest Judge, Sandra Bezic as Head Judge and Jeremy Roenick returning after a two week absence as Resident Judge, has no “saves” left to protect the pairs who will skate for their survival on this competitive live TV series on Sunday, October 23 at 8 p.m. (8:30 p.m. NT) and on Monday, October 24 at 8 p.m. (8:30 p.m. NT).

No stranger to battles on the ice, Nilan was a fearsome fighter during his NHL career. He holds the record for the most penalty minutes in a single game, has the highest penalty minute per game ratio and is one of only nine NHL players with more than 3,000 penalty minutes. Nilan played for the Montreal Canadiens (1979-1988), the New York Rangers (1987-1990), the Boston Bruins (1990-1992) and then he returned to the Montreal Canadiens (1991-1992). His career highlights include winning a Stanley Cup in 1986, playing for Team USA in the 1987 Canada Cup Tournament and being chosen to play in the NHL All-Star game in 1991. Nilan is now a regular contributor on TSN Radio 990 in Montreal.

This week the fans were given a choice of three songs for each pair and their online votes at www.cbc.ca/battle determined the final music selections.
