Game Preview by Sam Gerber
Last game: MTL 4  COL  2

A relentless attack by the Habs put an end to the Avalanche win streak. The Canadiens forecheckers led the way including Max Pacioretty, Brendan Gallagher and Artturi Lehkonen. Jonathan Drouin bested former teammate Nathan MacKinnon, playing one of his best games of the season.

For a complete recap: Relentless Habs Take Down NHL’s Hottest Team

Players to watch

  • Alex Galchenyuk
Galchenyuk is the most-talented Canadiens forward and has quietly been among the Habs top scorers for most of the season.
  • Jonathan Drouin
After his first three point game of the year, Drouin will look to keep the offense going and show that he can be a consistent scorer for the Habs.
  • Jordan Staal
Staal is one of the most dependable two-way centers in the NHL and never gives up on a play.

Keys to Victory

  • Pressure the puck
The Canadiens need to keep their foot on the gas and have a solid repeat performance.
  • Activate the defence
Activating the defence allows Montreal to support the inconsistent offensive attack.
  • Be responsible in D-zone
The team needs to support each other in coverage to overmatch the opposition and to ensure that they aren’t giving up an odd man rush.

 What to Expect
Prediction: Canadiens 3  Hurricanes 1

This season the Canadiens have been guilty of coming out flat after playing a great game. The Hurricanes aren’t one of the strongest teams in the NHL but the Habs can’t take them lightly. Montreal should come out with a lot of energy and will want to get the crowd into it early.
