1984 — The Los Angeles Kings beat the Edmonton Oilers, 4-2, ending Wayne Gretzky’s NHL record run for consecutive point getting at 51 games. Gretzky collected a total of 153 points (61 goals and 92 assists) during the scoring streak, which started October 5, 1983. 1996 — Jacques Martin appointed head coach of the NHL Ottawa Senators. |

► All-Star break
- Carey Price is representing the Montreal Canadiens at the 2018 All-Star game in Tampa.
- The Canadiens will return to action on Tuesday in St. Louis followed by a road game in Carolina on Thursday.
- The Habs will play two matinees next weekend, at home against Anaheim on Saturday and in Ottawa against the Senators on Sunday.

► Medical issues mar October
- It was revealed this week that Carey Price was chronically fatigued due to a vitamin deficiency at the start of the season. Following blood-work, a nutritionist identified that Price was lacking vitamins D and B12.
- Price began taking supplements at the beginning of November. His energy level began to improve within three weeks.
► Price praises Pacioretty, Weber
- During the All-Star media availability, Carey Price spoke highly of Max Pacioretty amid media-fed trade rumours. Price said, “He’s been a real professional about it. He continues to work on his game and just focus on what he needs to focus on. And you see it paying off lately, which is good to see.”
- The Canadiens captain leads the team in scoring with 16 goals, 15 assists for 31 points.
- In response to another question, Price said that his favorite player in the NHL today is Shea Weber.
► Bad ratings
- It shouldn’t be a surprise but TV ratings for Canadiens’ games have been down this season. Winning is always more profitable.
- La Presse is reporting that television ratings on RDS and TVA Sports are down 13 per cent this year when compared to last season.
- In the critical age group of 25-54, the Canadiens ratings are down 23 per cent. However both networks sold advertising based on forecasting an increase over last year. Therefore the networks have a shortfall of 34.5 per cent for the broadcast forecasts.
- In comparison, viewership is up for games on Hockey Night in Canada.
► Former Angel in the Hall
- Former Expos outfielder Vladimir Guerrero will be the first player to wear an Angel’s cap into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
- Guerrero said that he chose the Angels because “what it represented and what it represents now and all the winning that happened when I was with the Angels.”
- When announced during a recent Canadiens game, the Bell Centre crowd offered mild, polite applause. Expos fans are obviously disappointed with Guerrero’s choice.
► Danault improving
- Phillip Danault is still recovering from a concussion suffered on January 13th against the Boston Bruins when he was hit by a puck off the stick of Zdeno Chara.
- Danault’s agent, Stephane Fiset offered this update, “He is much better. He improves day-by-day. With a concussion, you never know: it can last a week, as it can last a month, two months, three months. There have been many improvements. He does not really have a headache, just a little dizziness again. He is meeting with specialists.”
- Fiset added, “He is still far away. He has to start training again and get on the rink, but he’s going in the right direction.”
