Game Preview by Sam Gerber
Last game : MTL 5  TOR 2  F   Joel Armia’s single-handed effort was the turning point  for the Canadiens opening the third period with a breakaway goal. Brendan Gallagher, Jonathan Drouin and Nick Suzuki all scored key goals. Coach Julien was concerned about the Habs, once again, giving up a goal late in a period.

Players to watch

  • Brendan Gallagher
Gallagher plays his 500th NHL career game tonight. Gallagher brings a competitive attitude each game. Despite an up and down start for his line, Gallagher co-leads the Habs in points with 10 in 11 games.
  • Nick Suzuki
Suzuki notched his third goal of the season and seems to be clicking well with veteran center Nate Thompson. Suzuki’s confidence continues to grow and it’s only a matter of time until he’s given more opportunity.
  • Max Domi
It will be the second emotionally-charged game for Domi in a row as he returns to the desert to play his former team. Like his current team, Domi has had an uneven start to the season.

Keys to Victory

  • Play a complete game
The Habs have been guilty of being lackadaisical at the end of periods. They must work hard and play smart until the buzzer.
  • Be cautious of speed
Both teams can play quick. The Canadiens have to be careful that they don’t get caught by the speedy Arizona transition game.
  • Support goaltending
Carey Price has had a solid start to the season. The defencemen in front of him have not. Given Marc Bergevin’s failure to fill holes on defence, it is up to the coaching staff to create a system to support their goaltenders.

Pre-game quotes
Brendan Gallagher

  • “I’ve been very fortunate to play in this organization as long as I have, with a team that’s really embraced me, and it’s made it that much more enjoyable. It’s been a fun 500 games – 499 so far – and hopefully there’s more to come.”

What to Expect by Sam Gerber
The Canadiens begin a short road trip to the West. The Coyotes are top 10 in the league but are returning home after a tiring, four-game road trip. The Habs depth will have to be a difference maker as the Coyotes depend heavily on their top six players. Expect a back and forth game that will go right down to the wire.
