Game Report

It was a tough 11 pm. ET game-time start for the Canadiens as well as their fans! Yet somehow, the Habs managed to generate 45 shots on goal, the most so far this season. Montreal dominated the Canucks from start to finish.

The game featured Nick Suzuki and Jesperi Kotkaniemi as the team’s top two centres with Kotkaniemi being rewarded with winger Brendan Gallagher with Tyler Toffoli on the 20-year-old’s left side as he has been for much of the season. The Canadiens new second line was the strongest on the night with four points collectively.

Ben Chiarot left the game with just under five minutes remaining in the first period after a fight with J.T. Miller. Chiarot appeared to injure his hand on Miller’s helmet and did not return to the game. Interim head coach Dominique Ducharme has already declared Chiarot unavailable for Thursday’s game in Calgary.

Canadiens’ players credited Chiarot for sparking their team, with Kotkaniemi scoring the game’s first goal just 32 seconds later. 

Alexander Romanov was the beneficiary in additional ice-time playing alongside Shea Weber. The Canadiens captain scored on the power-play to move into 10th place on the all-time list of power-play goals by defencemen. 

Jeff Petry was also setting milestones as he became the first Canadiens defenceman in 80 years to score ten goals in 25 games or fewer. Georges Mantha was the last Montreal player to accomplish the feat in 1937-38.

Carey Price was solid once again for his fourth straight start. Price has allowed just four goals in four games, saving 105 of 109 shots. Price is 10-0-3 in his last 13 starts against Vancouver.

The Canadiens will have a quick turnaround arriving in Calgary for a 9:00 pm. ET game-time on Thursday night. Montreal will not hold a full morning skate in Calgary.
