Game Preview

A Look Back

The Habs looked flat after playing a game in Vancouver, traveling and playing again within a twenty-four hour period. The Flames were rested but rusty and knew they could play the long game and that’s what they did.

Players to Watch

  • Victor Mete
This could be the final look the Habs give Mete, the Habs are desperately in need of a mobile play-making defenceman. Mete can be just that if he plays to his strengths and uses his speed to counter any hard forecheck.
  • Corey Perry
Perry has quietly been having a consistent season for the Habs. The veteran winger provides a spark to the fourth line and is a mainstay on the power-play.
  • Alexander Romanov
It is unknown whether Chariot’s injury will keep him out long term which could provide Romanov a big learning opportunity. If Romanov learns fast and performs better than he is expected he could save the Habs from having to make a move.

Keys to Victory

  • Start quickly
The Habs were flat last game, it would have been nice to see them rise to the challenge but it wasn’t meant to be. They will need to have a quick start tonight as both teams know what to expect.
  • Limit turnovers
With the new system the Habs need the forwards working with the defence more and being a five-man unit which will eliminate most types of turnovers.
  • Stand up for teammates
It’s been two games in a row where the Habs have had a player drop the gloves. Fighting may be down in the league but the Habs know they can’t get pushed around and Anderson did his best to let the Flames know that.

Pre-game Quotes
Dominique Ducharme

  • “You always have to take something away from every game. It was the first time this season that we played a back-to-back on the road. We’ll learn from this. We’ll react better next time. It’s tough to compare a game like tonight to our performance on Wednesday. It wasn’t the same conditions. We’ll use the lessons learned from tonight in the future.”

 Game Expectations
The Flames have given up at least three goals in their last six games and have lost four of those games. This is an excellent opportunity for the Habs to get some points to get back near the top of the division.

Bottom Line

Carey Price has had four great games in a row and the Habs will need another one from him tonight.
