MONTREAL, QC — Few phrases in Montreal Canadiens lore provoke more emotion or revive more memories than “The Forum“. Once called “the most storied building in hockey history” by Sporting News, the arena was home to nearly 18,000 Habs fans between 1924-1996.
Today that iconic structure on Cabot Square no longer echoes with the sounds of skates, sticks, pucks, and cheers amid Stanley Cup-winning excitement. However, Habs fans have found new ways to keep making their voices heard.
With this in mind, Rocket Sports Media is proud to bring you a new video column, Habs Fan Forum. The weekly video series is hosted by contributor Ben Dankiw. Each week he’ll take you on a journey to recap the highs and lows of the Habs from a fan’s perspective. So buckle up, it’s always a wild ride!
This Week:
On this week’s episode, Ben reacts to the 2021 NHL Entry Draft and reveals his feelings after the Montreal Canadiens announced their controversial pick of defenceman Logan Mailloux in the first round. He calls this a “tone deaf” pick, and believes a lot of goodwill was lost by Montreal’s management team in choosing Mailloux. While Ben skims the surface on this topic, be sure to check out Sunday’s episode of the Canadiens Connection podcast for in-depth analysis of this selection and all of the Habs’ draft picks.
Overall, Ben says it was a very strange year across the board for picks, with many draftees going earlier or later than projected. Teams seemed to go off the board through almost every round! Despite all of the controversy, Ben believes there’s still hope in the Canadiens’ haul of good, young players and runs down what he calls the “value management” the Habs demonstrated deep into the Draft. In case you missed it, check out the All Habs NHL Draft Tracker to see the full results.
MB needs to be fired for approving the Mailloux pick and the pick needs to be renounced. This mess would never have happened if Mr. Jean Beliveau was still with us. He understood what the CH stood for clearly MB does not
