GAMEDAY: All Habs Headlines

Spacek speaks:  Jaroslav Spacek celebrated his 38th birthday on Saturday — players at that age have earned the right to stray from the clichéd sound bytes.  In January, Spacek said that he was “pretty happy to be gone from there, from the whole circus,” (audio here) when asked about his trade from Montreal to Carolina. Back in the city to face his former team, Spacek wasn’t backing away from his statements.

He confirmed his feelings for Montreal this way, “”This city is always special to play in. But if the hockey doesn’t go well, it’s a mess, as I said.”

As for the minor controversy about the language skills of his former bench boss, Spacek said, “Hire an interpreter. You can have a good coach and it doesn’t have to be a French-speaking coach.”

Connect with Habs fans: At All Habs we are committed to connecting Canadiens fans — one of the ways we do that is through our Hockey Parties.  On Saturday night, we organized two events in Montreal and Toronto to celebrate Hockey Day in Canada.

After hearing the buzz about our events, Melissa Boufounos, decided to find out for herself what it was all about. Melissa is a former Montrealer and hockey player being drafted 52nd overall in the 2011 CWHL entry draft by the Burlington Barracudas. You may have read about her journey to the CWHL that appeared on our website.

“During the last year I’ve been reading up on these tweetup events and the friendships that come out of meeting fellow twitter Habs fans face-to-face, and finally had the opportunity to attend one myself.” — Melissa Boufounos

Melissa says that next on her list is attending an All Habs event in Montreal.

► Player rankings:  There’s no doubt that Carey Price has been the Canadiens MVP this season earning the Molson Cup for the months of October, November and December. During the Habs four-game winning streak, Price has been lights-out posting a 4-0 record with two shutouts, 0.98 goals against average and a .967 save percentage.

The only other player to be awarded the Molson Cup this season is Max Pacioretty who got the nod for the month of January.   Pacioretty leads the Canadiens in both goals (23) and points (42).

The guys at Habs World have both Pacioretty and Price at the top of their weekly rankings with Tomas Plekanec rounding out the top three.

► White to add punch to Habs lineup: Ian Schultz and Ryan White will be game time decisions on Monday night vs. the Carolina Hurricanes.  Both players are coming off three games in as many nights for the Hamilton Bulldogs.  On Saturday against the Toronto Marlies, Zack Fitzgerald tussled with Keith Aulie while White made short work of Nazem Kadri.
