Some NHL general managers (at least the smart ones) are finally starting to understand and work their budgets around the salary cap. It’s the third year of the “new” salary cap world of the NHL and having the cap moved up to $50.3 million certainly helps both the bad GMs to cover up their makes (JFJ and Jay Feaster come to mind) as well as the good GMs who will have cap room to make additions to their roster before or during the upcoming seasons (Bob Gainey will have this ability).
