Here’s an excerpt from HabProspects.com (montrealdan) who ranks the Canadiens top 20 prospects:

The 2008-2009 Season has kicked off already for many of the Montreal Canadiens prospects with the exception of those in the NCAA who open their season over the next couple of weeks depending on the conference. So far several prospects have been on display in the NHL preseason with guys like Max Pacioretty, Ben Maxwell, PK Subban and others all showing what they can do. The club also added to the teams depth at goaltending when they signed Robert Mayer who is back in the QMJHL for is likely his final season in the league.

Last season was another good one for the Canadiens prospects,Max Pacioretty, Yannick Weber, PK Subban, Pavel Valentenko all are coming off impressive year’s. The Habs also saw a number of their top prospects make the jump to the NHL full time. For this list Carey Price, Siarhei Kostitsyn, Jaroslav Halak and Ryan O’Byrne have graduated, while players on AHL only contracts aren’t counted David Desharnais, Thomas Beauregard and Conrad Martin. This list was tough to make as I have seen a very limited amount from Danny Kristo, Steve Quialer, Nichlas Torp, Jason Missiaen and Maxim Trunev.

1. Max Pacioretty- LW. For Pacioretty had a very good freshman year that saw him gain valuable experience on the top line for Michigan as well as getting some exposure to the international level where he played for Team USA. He was named the CCHA rookie of the year and he played a major role in helping his team win a CCHA championship. He also seems to be doing well in his first main training camp, getting better in each game while getting a good amount of ice time.
