After reeling from an embarrassing 5-0 loss to the Washington Capitals, the Canadiens made sure to come out winning in their first matchup this week.  The Carolina Hurricanes traveled to Montreal and faced off against a team hungry for a win.  Brandon Prust and Brendan Gallagher scored in the first period, followed by a Max Pacioretty goal in the second.  Those three goals, coupled with a solid performance by Carey Price, led the Canadiens to a shutout.  Final score: Canadiens, 3-0. The winning theme continued on Thursday night as the Canadiens traveled to Boston to take on the Bruins.  Peter Budaj was in net on this night, making a total of 34 saves.  The first two periods proved to be fruitful yet again, with Alexei Emelin and Pacioretty scoring in the first, and a power play goal by Brian Gionta which chased Tuuka Rask out of the Boston net.  Not long after Chad Johnson took over the goaltending duties, Danny Briere lit the lamp.  Final score: Canadiens, 4-1.

Saturday afternoon brought the Tampa Bay Lightning to the Bell Centre, but the Habs fell back into bad habits. Sloppy turnovers and listless gameplay resulted in a lackluster offense.  The only goal scored by the home team came in the third period when Briere tied the game.  It looked like the Habs would determine the outcome in the shootout, but the Lightning sealed the win with a goal in the last thirty seconds.  Final score: Lightning, 2-1 (OT).

The Canadiens have one more week of play until the Olympic break, beginning with a tilt against the Winnipeg Jets on Super Bowl Sunday. Until then, we’ve got plenty of content to keep you busy reading about your favourite team! In case you missed them, here are a few fantastic articles published earlier this week:
