Carey Price ranked #2 on Hockey’s Future Top 50 Prospects 1-10, Fall 2008

Here an excerpt from Hockey’s Future Top 10 prospects for Fall 2008. As you can see below, Carey Price is listed as the #2 ranked prospect just behind Steven Stamkos (why? I don’t know??!!)

2. Carey Price, G – Montreal Canadiens

Price earned the opportunity to be Montreal’s No. 1 goaltender in his rookie NHL season, and proved that he was more than capable of the job. Playing net for the NHL’s oldest franchise means considerable scrutiny, however, Price appears to have taken it all in stride. A butterfly goaltender with exceptional reflexes, he reads plays well, and is both poised under pressure and quick to react. He fills the net, both in size and movement, to the point where he makes the job look easy. An up and down postseason performance in 2008 is no cause for alarm. Price is still young and relatively inexperienced and should have a long NHL career ahead of him. The Canadiens have a history of finding exceptional goaltenders and it would seem that Carey Price is the next in that long line.

  1. LOL, Carey Price was established as the Habs #1 goaltender nearly a year ago. Why is he included on a “prospects” list? He started or played in half of the team’s regular season games, and nearly all of their playoff games. What does it take to graduate from the “prospect” category? Hockeys Future is ridiculous most of the time.

  2. Rob,

I couldn’t agree more with you!! I would like to see the criteria or guidelines used by the HF staff to make these selections. Some are downright ridiculous and very random in their order.
