Canadiens acquire defenseman Mike Weaver from the Florida Panthers

MONTREAL (March 4, 2014) – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced on Tuesday the acquisition of defenseman Mike Weaver from the Florida Panthers in exchange for a fifth round draft pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
Weaver, 35, has collected six assists in 55 games since the beginning of the 2013-14 season. The 5-foot-10, 183-pound defenseman has recorded 23 penalty minutes, 101 hits and 94 blocked shots, while averaging 18:47 ice time per game.
He has registered 86 points (7 goals, 79 assists) and 213 penalty minutes in 585 NHL career games with the Atlanta Thrashers, Los Angeles Kings, Vancouver Canucks, St. Louis Blues and Panthers. Weaver tallied one goal in 11 career playoff contests.
A native of Bramalea, Ontario, Weaver was signed as a free agent by the Panthers on August 3, 2010.
