 Game Recap:

It was a high intensity game right from the opening puck drop. The Canadiens lost two forwards early on as Dale Weise was injured on a dangerous hit from Kevan Miller into the boards and Travis Moen suffered a concussion when dropping the gloves for his teammate.  The Canadiens defenders shone particularly on the penalty-kill, namely Tomas Plekanec, Brian Gionta, Andrei Markov, Alexei Emelin and Mike Weaver. The Bruins chased hits and took bad penalties as they lost their focus.

 Post-game Press Conference

186237429_slideCoach Michel Therrien

  • “It’s not about (ending) their streak. What they accomplished I got a lot of respect, and honestly the way I see things, it’s more about getting those two points and try to qualify for the playoffs.”
  • “We played for two points tonight, and I believe our guys did a fantastic job killing penalties. We gave them four power plays in the third period and only allowed six shots. The guys on the penalty killing did a great job, especially that we lost two players, two forwards, early in the game. We got 10 forwards available for tonight’s game, against the hottest team in the League.
  • “What I have to say about (Tomas) Plekanec and (Brian) Gionta, that those guys were great. Our defense, (Mike) Weaver was good, (Douglas) Murray, they were blocking shots, (Alexei) Emelin, (Andrei) Markov, all those guys did a great job killing penalties.”
  • “[Peter Budaj] deserved to win, the way that he played, he battled hard. The decision for us, you want to put an athlete in the position who will get a challenge.  Definitely tonight, it was a challenge a challenge for Peter and he responded the way that we expected.”
  •  “[Alex Galchenyuk] was due (for a shootout goal.)”

Forward Alex Galchenyuk

  • “For sure, those guys (Travis Moen, Dale Weise) get us going. They are such team guys, and it’s unfortunate to see them exit the game like that. But we certainly won this game for them.”

Bruins defenseman Dougie Hamilton

  • “I think there were just a lot of blocked shots. Their D-men were stepping out for everything.”

Bruins forward Brad Marchand

  • “Too bad it ended, but that’s not really a goal to go on a long streak like that. It’s play our best hockey and play the way we need to every night. And I think it just shows that when we do that, we’re going to give ourselves an opportunity to win every night. If we continue that, we’re going to win a lot more games, and that’s what we need going into the playoffs.”
