	On this day in hockey history… 1955 — Detroit Red Wings’ rookie goalie Glenn Hall and Boston’s Terry Sawchuk battled to a 0-0 tie, at Boston, one week after playing a scoreless match at the Olympia.  1984 — L.A.’s Bernie Nicholls became the first player in NHL history to score a goal in all four periods of a game. He scored once in each period, plus the overtime winner when the Kings beat the Nordiques 5-4 in Quebec City.  1997 — Vancouver Canucks fired second year coach Tom Renney, and named Mike Keenan as his replacement.

► Friday the 13th

• The Canadiens skated the Bell Sports Complex in Brossard on Friday morning prior to their matchup with the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday.
• Defenceman Alexei Emelin had a therapy day and did not skate. Torrey Mitchell was also absent from practice.

► Eyes on Gallagher

• With numerous announcements in the past two weeks about personnel for the upcoming World Cup of Hockey, Team Canada GM Doug Armstrong revealed that they have their eyes on Habs forward Brendan Gallagher.

• One of the Canadiens greatest defencemen of all-time has joined Twitter. Larry Robinson posted his first tweet recently.

► Price out another week

• Canadiens backstop Carey Price will be sidelined another week with a lower-body injury according to head coach Michel Therrien.
• Price suffered the injury in a game again the Edmonton Oilers on the team’s western Canadian road trip and has been out a week and a half to this point.
• In his absence the Habs have gotten a lift from Needham, Massachusetts native Mike Condon who’s emerged as the league best backup much like the situation Cam Talbot was in last season with the Rangers.
• Condon leads the league in save percentage, is in the top six for goals against average and, almost more importantly, has permitted Dustin Tokarski to be pinned to the bench for the duration of his call-up.
• Michel Therrien gave little diagnosis of Price’s injury which is to the team’s benefit in his eyes “We’re fighting against the competition. Why would we give an advantage to the competition? I see no positive in saying exactly what it is.”
• Max Pacioretty added, “We have a lot to prove. We knew that people felt that Carey was the reason for all of our success. He is a very big reason for a lot of our success because he’s our best player. But we shouldn’t feel bad about the fact that our best player’s on the ice for 60 minutes every game. We’re so fortunate to have him on our team.”

► Annual father-son trip

• The Canadiens parted for their annual Father-son road trip and Eric Engels of Sportsnet caught up with some of the guys to speak about their fondest childhood memories with their fathers.
• “He told me he’s very proud. He was everything. We come from a blue collar family, and just paying for goalie pads and prep school when money was tight was huge for me, so [I’m] just trying to follow his lead,” said Mike Condon.
• P.K. Subban also told stories about his father saying, “I remember after we won in Ottawa, he knew how important that was to me because the first year [in Pardubice, CZE.] I didn’t really get to play. The second year I wanted to do a little bit more and definitely wanted to win a gold medal, and I did. I remember after the game he came down and gave me a big hug and it was pretty emotional.”
• “He used to go outside and shovel off our outdoor pond. Every single morning he’d take a hot water heater—we called it a mini Zamboni—and he’d shovel off the ice and I’d be out there on that thing all day. He’d be out there with me skating around. Those are the best memories for me because I can think back even as I was a little kid, as young as I can remember, when I was living in Alberta he’d be out there late at night, he’d be setting up lights and setting up nets and finding pucks in the snowbank for me to just go out and do what I loved,” recounted Gallagher.

► Pacioretty rounding into a fine captain

• Max Pacioretty has had a red hot start to his first season as captain but is still growing as team captain saying, “I’m thinking a lot more before I act or before I speak, and that’s great off the ice and away from the game. But on the ice I have to do a little bit less thinking and just kind of get back to reacting.”
• “Sometimes I think I get caught up in stuff that I feel I have to control, but all I have to do is worry about my game when I’m on the ice.” the captain told Arpon Basu of NHL.com.
• “I’m a psychopath. My wife thinks I’m absolutely nuts. I’m never satisfied with anything. I mean in terms of hockey; obviously I’m satisfied with my wife and family. But as far as hockey I’m never satisfied with anything. It’s a bit of a problem, but I think it’s also what’s gotten me this far.”

► Going back outside

• The Boston Bruins website released this promotional video for this year’s Winter Classic between Habs and their Bostonian counterparts.
• It stars much maligned and somewhat loved anthem singer Rene Rancourt along with some guy in a Milan Lucic costume.

► Well that’s unfortunate

• On the heels of Jack Eichel’s impressive start to his NHL career ESPN.com hockey writer Sean McIndoe took a look at other teams that missed out on the first overall pick and their respective repercussions.
• To summarize, it went like this: The Sharks missed out on Vincent Lecavalier, the Penguins were one pick away from having Alex Ovechkin, the Carolina Hurricanes missed out on Marc-Andre Fleury, the Blue Jackets missed out on the emerging Nail Yakupov and the Islanders didn’t get Iyla Kovalchuck.

► Being positive is key

• Minnesota Wild goaltender Devan Dubnyk the ok a long road to being a legitimate starting goaltender and positivity was the key to becoming a starter.
• Dubnyk signed a long term deal this offseason and was asked whether that provided added stability saying, “From the summer and coming in and being a little bit at home and knowing that I get to be a part of this group for a long time has been great. Right from the beginning, I’ve been able to concentrate strictly on getting wins. […] So kind of being able to have that has allowed me to strictly worry about being on the right side of the scoreboard at the end of the game.”
• “We love it. Being from Canada, it’s similar to living up there, obviously, climate-wise. People here are extremely friendly. Just the way people have treated me from the time I showed up here, the friends and everything and everybody in the city, it’s just been very special to me. I’ve really enjoyed it, and so has my family,” the gargantuan goaltender said of the new place he calls home.
• Knowing he’s the number one goalie is obviously an added dose of confidence saying “[…] That relationship is extremely important, because you’re the only guys in the dressing room that know what it’s like to be a goalie, know the pressures, know how things happen in front of you. You got to be there for each other, because nobody else really knows what actually goes on, so it’s important to be close with those guys.”

► Pastrnak out indefinitely

• As if the Bruins hadn’t already had poor luck with a slew of injuries to start the season the, now the team will be deprived of one of their brightest stars.
• David Pastrnak will be out indefinitely after doctors found a crack in his foot. He was out for ten games before being informed that it was indeed a crack in his foot.
• “We have to get him some time. The course of action doesn’t change for him except he just needs a little bit more rest,” said GM Don Sweeney.
• Before going down with an injury the man who was selected in front of Nikita Scherbak in the 2014 draft had two goals and the same amount of assists in 11 games with a minus -three rating.
