CANADIENS ASSIGN NEVINS TO BULLDOGS; ‘DOGS RELEASE OWENS FROM TRYOUT
Nevins has split this season between the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Charlottetown Islanders and Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. In 41 regular season games with Charlottetown, the Stittsville, Ontario native recorded 36 points (14 goals, 22 assists) and 98 penalty minutes. In 23 regular season games with Rouyn-Noranda, the 6’2”, 199-pound forward recorded 12 points (five goals, seven assists) and 61 penalty minutes, then in nine playoff games with the Huskies, he recorded eight points (five goals, three assists) and 14 penalty minutes.
In 115 career QMJHL regular season games with the Prince Edward Island Rocket, Islanders and Huskies from 2012-2014, the 20-year-old recorded 63 points (27 goals, 36 assists) and 262 penalty minutes. Before joining the Rocket in 2012, Nevins played in the Ontario Hockey League with the Sarnia Sting, Kingston Frontenacs and London Knights from 2011-2012. In 61 career OHL regular season games, he recorded 11 points (five goals, six assists) and 85 penalty minutes. He was signed by the Canadiens to a three-year contract on December 3rd, 2013.
Owens has split this season between the Bulldogs and Stingrays. In 26 games with Hamilton, the Toronto, Ontario native recorded six points (one goal, five assists) and 30 penalty minutes. In 17 games with South Carolina, the 6’0”, 189-pound forward has recorded 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists) and eight penalty minutes.
In 337 career AHL regular season games with the Hartford Wolf Pack, Grand Rapids Griffins, Connecticut Whale and Bulldogs, the 27-year-old has recorded 117 points (38 goals, 79 assists) and 377 penalty minutes. Owens was originally signed by the Bulldogs to a try out agreement on November 28th, 2013.
Hamilton’s next game is scheduled for Saturday, April 12th when the ‘Dogs will host the Rochester Americans (AHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres) at FirstOntario Centre at 7:00 p.m.
