Goaltending decision

  • The Canadiens have considerable depth, especially when it comes to goaltending. But who will backup Carey Price?
  • Peter Budaj at 32 years of age has played in the NHL since the 2005-2006 season and is known for his solid role as a backup goaltender in the league.
  • Dustin Tokarski is making his case for the position. His play in the Stanley Cup playoffs last year after Price got hurt certainly spoke for itself.
  • The outcome is unclear but Peter Budaj addresses the media regarding this topic:

 Habs roster cuts

  • Montreal Canadiens’ head coach, Michel Therrien, will have to make decisions as to who will stay with the team this year, and who will go back to play in Hamilton. This decision is never an easy one and again certainly won’t be again this year. Therrien comments on the subject, “What’s difficult is that we’re satisfied with the way a lot of our youngsters have performed, and we’re satisfied with the way our three goaltenders have played as well. We’ve seen the progression in our young players at every position,” offered Therrien, who confirmed that many of those young guns would suit up against the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night in the Windy City, while also indicating that Carey Price would get the start in goal for a second straight game. “We’ll let training camp continue. There will be some really tough decisions to make. That’s a good sign. It often happens that you don’t have the luxury of making those types of decisions. I look at it as a positive. We have depth. Our youngsters are developing well. It’s a lot tougher this year than in previous years.”

 Fun at training camp

  • Although training camp is primarily for getting the team ready for the upcoming season, including making the final decisions as to who will be on the roster on opening night, the players like to have a little fun. P.K. Subban is known for his outgoing personality, both on and off the ice. The goal celebration he did after scoring an empty net goal at practice was an example of just that, but Brandon Prust had some fun with the situation- at P.K’s expense.
