	On this day in hockey history… 1963 — Montreal beat the Rangers 6-4 in a game that set an NHL record for fastest 3 goals by 2 teams. Montreal’s Dave Balon and Gilles Tremblay, and Rangers’ Camille Henry scored within a span of 18 seconds early in the first period to set the record. 1971 — Brad Park became the first defenseman in New York Rangers history to score a hat trick, in a 6-1 win over the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins. Park also picked up an assist in the game. 1998 — Tampa Bay Lightning traded right wing Mikael Renberg and center Daymond Langkow to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for center Chris Gratton and center Mike Sillinger.

► Game day!

• Hoping to end a four-game losing streak, the Canadiens will take on the Ottawa Senators at the Bell Senator on Saturday night.
• Charles Hudon, in his first NHL game, and Greg Pateryn got into the lineup versus the Detroit Red Wings and took the spots of Nathan Beaulieu and Christian Thomas. Torrey Mitchell made the trek to Michigan but didn’t get into any game action.
• Mike Condon should be back in nets Saturday versus the Senators.

► Semin headed to the motherland

• A day after unceremoniously departing the hockey mecca of Quebec, Alexander Semin has now found a new home overseas.
• The Russian forward is expected to sign a contract with Magnitogorsk Metallurg of the KHL, a team formerly coached by former NHL head coach Mike Keenan.
• After signing a free agent deal with the Canadiens in the summer, the sniper found himself on unconditional waivers four months later after only recording one goal and four points in 15 games receiving very limited icetime from Michel Therrien.
• Considering the Canadiens and Semin mutually agreed to terminate his contract, his contract will only count for just over $300,000 against the cap.
• Metallurg currently sits sixth in the East division with 65 points and has, most notably, 2015 Washington Capitals first round pick Ilya Samsonov between the pipes as a backup.

► Absolutely fantastic

• In honour of the holidays the Canadiens players were put up to the task of signing segments of “Let It Go” from the film “Frozen.” The video is extremely entertaining but may I highlight the performances of Lars Eller and Tomas Fleischmann.

► Gallagher eyeing January 1st

• After blocking a Johnny Boychuck point drive in the third period in a game versus the Islanders, Brendan Gallagher required surgery that would put him out a minimum of six weeks. Two weeks later, he hopes to marginally advance that date.
• Six weeks would take us to January 3rd, two days after the Winter Classic, but the Habs alternate captain doesn’t believe playing January first is an impossibility. “There’s a very slim chance I’ll be able to get back in there,” said Gallagher.
• “The biggest thing for me to get back is the mobility. I don’t think strength will be an issue,” he said of his currently rehabbing fingers.
• Gallagher’s absence has been greatly felt for a Canadiens team that has Sven Andrighetto and Paul Byron as two of its top nine players.
• Despite generating many scoring opportunities the Canadiens offence has failed to find the back of the net, only scoring six goals in four games.

► Lefebvre praises Andrighetto

• Safe to say Sven Andrighetto has had a solid start to his 2015-16 campaign, ending up on the first line seven games into the season, and his AHL head coach had nothing but praise for the 22-year old.
• About Andrighetto, Sylvain Lefebvre told Rick Stephens of IceCaps Hockey report, “He’s making a case for himself right now. He’s using his speed effectively and he’s getting scoring chances because he’s playing the right way.”
• Lefebvre added, “[Andrighetto] is doing the job defensively. Kudos to him, he’s doing a good job.”
• With former IceCaps Andrighetto, Daniel Carr, Christian Thomas, Charles Hudon and Dustin Tokarski all currently in Montreal, Lefebvre described his typical send off from St. John’s saying, “Everytime they leave, I tell them I don’t want to see them again  (laughs.)”

► Capitals re-release a jersey

• The Washington Capitals wore the jersey they donned in the 2011-12 Winter Classic for a couple years before going to a new one last season. Now they will be re-releasing their 2011-12 jersey.
• The jersey from back in 2011 actually had a white base, and was used for some home games but mostly on the road. This iteration of the uniform will have a red base and will be used only at home this season.
• They used the white jerseys up until last season. Originally, the team wore the uniforms from 1974-95, as their first in franchise history.
• The Caps will be wearing the jerseys 15 times this season including twice versus the Canadiens, on December 26th and February 24th, both times in D.C.

► Panthers to stay in Florida

• An under-reported story passed under the radar on Tuesday when the future of hockey in South Florida was put in the hands of Broward County.
• The Florida Panthers were saved by their county by receiving an $86 million assist from Broward County who will pay the team’s arena bills for the next 13 years.
• The team has reportedly lost just over $157 million between 2008 and 2014, in which they went to the playoffs once.
• Broward county was infamously screwed by Miami Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria who had the County pay for the majority of their stadium with little compensation.
• The Panthers will however have to help payoff $15.3 million, which is part of Broward County’s debt.
