 Two-on-zero shortie

  • Breakaways are not routine. Two-on-zero breaks are very rare in hockey. And a two-on-zero chance while shorthanded? Well, you calculate the odds.
  • The four pass two-on-zero break by Tomas Plekanec and Max Pacioretty was a thing of beauty. Let’s have a look.

► MacMillan out

  • Canadiens prospect Mark MacMillan underwent surgery on Saturday to repair damage after his wrist came into contact with a skate during a game on Friday against Providence.
  • The North Dakota forward is out indefinitely.

► Therrien milestone

  • Montreal Canadiens’ head coach, Michel Therrien, celebrated his 600th game behind the bench on Saturday night.
  • Getting a win was certainly how he would have wanted to celebrate it, and that’s exactly what his team did!

► Tim Horton’s Coaching Day

  • Saturday marked the twelfth consecutive year of Tim Horton’s Coaching Day. Over 700 coaches took part in the event designed for coaches of all levels to get together and learn from each other.
  • Canadiens head coach, Michel Therrien, shares his thoughts, “Not every child who plays hockey will one day make it to the NHL, far from it. But hockey can be a good school of life. It’s important to encourage them, and to help them as much as possible. In certain cases, hockey can even keep troubled kids on the right track and help them turn their lives around.”
