Yannick Weber Named a Starter for 2009 PlanetUSA AHL All-Star Team

The American Hockey League announced today that Hamilton Bulldogs defenceman Yannick Weber has been named as a starter for the 2009 PlanetUSA AHL All-Star team. AHL fans determined the starting lineups via on-line balloting at theahl.com, while a committee of AHL coaches selected the remainder of the rosters.

Weber, 20, is currently with the Montreal Canadiens after being recalled on January 1st but has not played in any games with the club. In his rookie season with the Bulldogs, the 5-foot-10, 195-pound blueliner leads all ‘Dogs defencemen in points with 18 (eight goals, 10 assists) along with 18 penalty minutes. He leads all AHL rookie defencemen in shots with 87 and is tied for third among AHL defencemen in power-play goals with five. The native of Zurich, Switzerland was the 3rd round, 73rd overall selection of the Montreal Canadiens in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

  1. Heady stuff for Weber. Follows in the footsteps of Jaroslav Halak, Mike Komisarek, and Ron Hainsey who made the AHL All Star team in their rookie pro season. But I don’t think any of those guys were voted in as starters.
