This week’s four-game road trip started in Colorado, when the Canadiens took on the Avalanche Monday night. Jiri Sekac got the Habs a rare first period goal to get things started. Andrei Markov followed that with a power play goal in the second period, and an even-strength goal by P.K. Subban. Colorado continued to bounce back, though, and with the game tied at three-apiece late in the third period, Max Pacioretty potted the game-winning goal for Montreal. Final score: Canadiens, 4-3. On Wednesday, the Canadiens headed to Minnesota for a mid-week matchup against the Wild. The Habs organization and community paid tribute to Montreal legend Jean Beliveau, who had passed away the day before. Players wore Beliveau’s number on their uniforms in tribute. On the ice, it was all Minnesota throughout most of the game. Alex Galchenyuk spared the Habs from being shut out with a late goal in the final minute of regulation. Final score: Wild, 2-1. It was an original six faceoff on Friday night when the Chicago Blackhawks welcomed the Habs. The Canadiens allowed two goals against in another dismal first period, but Brendan Gallagher managed to get his team on the board before the first intermission. Sergei Gonchar tallied his first goal in a Canadiens jersey with a second-period goal, followed by a power play goal by Subban. The Habs weren’t able to get another puck in the net in the third period, but Brandon Saad fired one past Carey Price in the last thirty seconds of the game to give the Blackhawks the win. Price started in net the next night, despite the back-to-back situation, when the Canadiens traveled to Dallas for a tilt against the Stars. This game looked as lackluster as the one against the Wild earlier in the week, with the offense not producing and the defense allowing multiple goals. The one highlight of the night for the Habs came in the third period when Sven Andrighetto scored his first NHL goal in his NHL debut game. Final score: Stars, 4-1. The Canadiens have a couple days to regroup before beginning a short week at home on Tuesday night against the Vancouver Canucks.
