► Montreal Canadiens: December 14

• Just an off-ice workout for the Canadiens today at Brossard. Mike Weaver and Bryan Allen were the only two players that skated.
• The Habs will practice Monday at 11 am. at Bell Sports Complex in Brossard. They play next on Tuesday night against the Carolina Hurricanes.
• Forward Eric Tangradi was assigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs after Friday night’s game.

• On Saturday, hundreds of fans were fortunate enough to skate with Canadiens players at the Bell Centre.  Taking part were  Alex Galchenyuk, Dustin Tokarski, Manny Malhotra, Michael Bournival, Jiri Sekac, Tom Gilbert and Sven Andrighetto.

► Fucale in a fight for the crease.

• Montreal Canadiens’ prospect, Zachary Fucale, is hopeful about this year’s World Junior Championships. Fucale was a part of Team Canada last year when they placed fourth at the WJC in Sweden. He is looking to take the experience and put it to work in this year’s tournament saying, “We learned a lot. It was a tough loss, but now it’s a new year and a new team, so we’re looking forward to it. For me, there are a lot of things I have changed from last year. I have become better mentally, stronger physically, and technically everything has gotten better. I feel great coming to this event. It is a great opportunity, so I am just looking forward to the whole experience and living the moment.”
• Zachary Fucale is not guaranteed the position as starting goaltender by any means as Eric Comrie is also fighting for the position. However Fucale explains his take on having to compete for the role, “It’s always good to have competition. Me and [Comrie] are both team players that just want to help the team win as much as we can. That’s all there is to it. We go out there and compete real hard every day. That’s all you can do.”
• At last year’s WJC tournament, Fucale, posted a 2.42 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage.

► Mumps confirmed.

• The Pittsburgh Penguins released the following statement on Sunday, “Sidney Crosby has been diagnosed with the mumps, the Pittsburgh Penguins announced today. Crosby will continue to be monitored daily, but specialists believe he should be through the infectious period by Monday. He will not play in Monday’s home game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.”
• When a professional athlete gets a contagious illness, it doesn’t take long for it to spread throughout the team and then the league. Recently the NHL has been hit with numerous outbreaks of the mumps.
• People who get the mumps usually recover within a week or two, but the first symptoms of the illness include a fever, fatigue, head and body aches, and then swelling of the salivary glands.
• The NHL Deputy Commissioner, Bill Daly, commented on the situation, “It is certainly an outbreak that was unexpected and has caused unwanted disruption at the team level, but it is not something we have any significant control over. As long as our clubs are doing what they need to do to minimize risk of contraction, we are hopeful that the wave of cases will run their course and life will return to normal.”
• The Canadiens Bryan Allen has been in quarantine from the team due to mumps-like symptoms. After practice on Sunday Allen said, “The coaching staff and the medical staff will have to make a decision about when I get back out there, but I feel good. I’m ready to come back when they give me the call.”

• ESPN’s SportsCenter decided to resurrect NHL ’94-style graphics and sound  to present the highlights of the Canadiens’ 6-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings.
