The Boston Bruins will have to do without Milan Lucic for Game 3 of their series with the Canadiens after the NHL handed the bruising forward a one-game suspension Sunday.

Lucic received a minor and match penalty for crosschecking Montreal’s Maxim Lapierre in the neck and head late in the third period of Boston’s 5-1 win over the Canadiens.

In an attempt to avoid losing one of their emotional sparkplugs the submitted a video clip to NHL Senior Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell that they believed showed Lucic’s gloved hand striking Lapierre’s neck and head before his stick.

“While it is unclear whether Lucic’s glove or stick makes contact with Lapierre, what is clear is that he delivered a reckless and forceful blow to the head of his opponent,” said Campbell in a statement.

A Vancouver native, Lucic has been a physical force in the series thus far. He has been credited with eight hits, including a couple of momentum changers in Game 1, and has racked up a playoff high 24 minutes in penalties. He has also collected a pair of assists and a +2 rating.

He will be eligible to return for Game 4 on Wednesday in Montreal.

    1. People keep saying that Lucic not being in the lineup won’t help the Habs… While I’d love it if the Bruins suddenly imploded without him, I’m just happy that he actually was suspended for that… =)

    2. Glad about the suspension too, but I agree it will not change the dynamic overall. It would be different to have him in a game with his thuggery rewarded by a series of penalties. The man advantage would be a much bigger benefit. Must say I am disappointed Boston has not taken to bullying. Was expecting them to be much more physical and much more penalized. Seems the Habs could take a few notes.

    3. At least the dumb goon is on notice now. Hopefully Lapierre or someone can sucker him into another cheap shot and get him suspended for 3 or 4 games as a repeat offender. I thought the best hits of the night were Komisarek on Kobasew, and whoever nailed Lucic. Plus Kovalev steamrolled some guy who hit him in open ice. Habs had the best of the physical game, but it was the cheap little penalties that did them in.

    4. Ahh yess, the Habs will do the only thing that they know how and that is to turtle. Lucic should not have been suspended but the league is trying to help the helpless promote the 100th anniversary.

      Happy 100!! :) :)

    12. I wouldn’t call praying that you can sucker Lucic into a longer suspension much of a game plan. If that;s all you can hang your hat on, you’ve got big problems (and you do).
Oh, and that great hit by Komisarek on Kobasew? He took himself out of position to make the hit, and ended up giving up a goal instead. I absolutely LOVE seeing Habs fans pointing out all these “moral voctories”…..the same stuff you all used to laugh at Bruins fans about.
Oh well, enjoy your moral victory….and your long summer vacation. Maybe you can replay the Komi hit all summer, while we replay the series clinching game.

    13. The goal had very little, if anything, to do with Komisarek’s hit on UpChucked Kolbasa, that greasy little Ukranain Sausage. It was just a fluke, Komo separated Kolbasa from the puck, it bounced around off several players and ended up right on a Bruin stick in the high slot. It wasn’t like evil little Chucky took the hit and made a perfect pass to an open teammate or anything. Far from it, he was flat on his ass looking for a license plate number at the time.
