Owen Sound, ON. — The Jean Beliveau Award is awarded annually to the player on the Canadiens who has had the most charitable and community involvement. This year P.K. Subban earned the honours succeeding last year’s winner, Carey Price.
During the opening ceremonies of game against the Buffalo Sabres on March 10th, P.K. was presented with the award. The selection process involves members of the Board of Directors of the Montreal Canadiens’ Children Foundation assessing players on their commitment, leadership, and financial contributions to their chosen cause.
Others players do great things for their communities such as Carey Price’s constant inspiration, encouragement, and donations to First Nations Youth. That being said though, a $10 million commitment certainly is hard to top. Subban has even gone above that though holding several events to help lift the children’s spirits.
This year P.K. has raised $820,000 for the Montreal Children’s hospital as well as sending the $25,000 donation the award comes with to his cause.
According to Subban, Jean Beliveau is his idol so I wouldn’t be surprised if his generosity continues and he earns the award on many occasions.
