	On this day in hockey history… 1938 — Bill Masterton was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Bill  Masterton trophy is annually given to the player who “best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.” 1949 — Future Hall-of-Famer Bobby Clarke was born in Flin Flon, Manitoba.

► Beaulieu Looking Forward to Weber

• As training camp approaches, it seems that Canadiens players are fairly excited for the arrival of Shea Weber, as is evidenced by comment 3,023 out of 10,495 thus far.
• Potential defence partner Nathan Beaulieu gave his opinion on the former Predators captain, “I’m aware that people are skeptical about Shea (Weber ), but I’m convinced he’ll have success with our team,” he told Le Journal de Montreal.
• Beaulieu also gave his scouting report on the hulking defenceman, “He’s big and strong. Defensively, he’s the best in the league. He regularly goes to the All-Star game and he scores 20 goals a year.”
• Beaulieu showed occasional flashes of brilliance in the top four in years past, most notably alongside P.K. Subban. It will be of interest for Habs fans and management alike to witness his abilities flourish with an elite two-way defenceman.

► Roy, Sakic, Not On The Same Page

• Patrick Roy’s tenure as head coach of the Colorado Avalanche was marked by flashes, poor organizational management and missed opportunities, and, evidently, a difference in philosophies.
• In the aftermath of Roy’s resignation, many analysts have given similar insights, including Sportsnet’s John Shannon, “Bottom line on Roy’s resignation today, he and Sakic haven’t been on same page for a while. During free agency time they were’t even speaking,” he noted via Twitter.
• “But Roy felt timing was right given the philosophical differences. Doesn’t know what his future holds for him at this point (con’t)…,” Pierre Lebrun reported via his Twitter account.

► Wisniewski Gets A PTO

• Following a buyout by the Carolina Hurricanes (to give opportunities to the likes of Hadyn Fleury) James Wisniewski has an opportunity of his own, garnering a professional tryout from the Tampa Bay Lightning.
• First reported by Yahoo Sports, the former Canadiens blueliner will attempt to crack a Lightning defensive core with a solidified top-six, with Slater Koekkoek also lobbying for a spot.
• The Lightning defensive core ridded themselves of Matthew Carle’s contract this offseason and was the most active, re-signing Steven Stamkos, Victor Hedman and Alex Killorn among others.
• Wisniewski was absent for all but one game last season due to knee surgery, with his best season coming as a member of the Blue Jackets organization in 2013-14 where he recorded seven goals and 51 points in 75 games.

► Zetterberg To Become Swedish Captain

• Although the World Cup of Hockey will almost always assuredly be a shell of the Winter Olympics hockey tournament, there’s nevertheless a major pride factor involved, especially for newly minted Swedish captain Henrik Zetterberg.
• Team Sweden made the announcement this week with team advisor and former Swedish captain Nicklas Lidstrom calling Zetterberg “the obvious choice [for the captaincy].”
• Zetterberg himself was, obviously, extremely honoured saying, “It’s a very special thing to be the captain for this team. I’m honored. It’s something I’ll always remember.”
• The Sundsvall, Sweden native’s professional international career has been prolific, with 30 goals and 85 points in 119 games, including a World Championship gold, silver and a pair of bronzes and an Olympic gold and silver.

► Vesey Down To Six

• The Jimmy Vesey sweepstakes is finally winding to a close and, with August 15th approaching rapidly, the former Harvard captain has narrowed his choices to a final “half dozen teams” according to the Boston Herald. Vesey is expected to announce his decision on Monday.
• Vesey’s agent, Peter Fish, spoke to the Herald, “Just to kind of finalize our thoughts. We’ve all been running around doing stuff this summer, but we’re finally getting down to the nitty-gritty.”
• Vesey’s talents would be well-served on many a roster, but it seems as though he’s taken into account all mitigating factors when choosing his immediate future, at least for the next pair of seasons.
• There are about 4-5 teams, other than Buffalo, that he wants to hear from. After that he’s going to make a decision,” continued Fish, a former college netminder. “I think he’d love for the Bruins to be one of those teams. I assume that we will be taking a call from them.”

► Tarasenkshow

• In recent years Vladimir Tarasenko has pulled off some pretty magical moves, and he continues to do so even during the offseason.
• While back home for the 2016 KHL fan day, Tarasenko partook in a shootout competition where he pulled off the puck on a string trick and found the back of the net.
• As Puck Daddy pointed out, Tarasenko performed a similar move in 2012 while at the same event in Russia, just prior to his first season in the NHL, the lockout shortened 2012-14 campaign.
