THE ULTIMATE HOCKEY CLINIC

Hyundai Hockey Nation Launches With Free On-line Registration
Events To Begin in Vancouver December 3rd

CBC Press Release

Parents, players and coaches involved in minor league hockey will be treated to the ultimate CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA experience with coaching greats and CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA personalities thanks to an exciting new partnership with Hyundai Auto Canada. Hyundai Hockey Nation will occur over weekends between December 2010 and January 2011, in Vancouver; Edmonton; Calgary; Ottawa; Montreal; Toronto, and Halifax. Participants can register online exclusively at www.cbcsports.ca/hockeynation.

Hyundai Hockey Nation will feature a series of fun and highly informative clinics, available free to players of all skill-levels. The clinics will be run by one of Canada’s foremost hockey trainers and Ron Davidson, working with local minor hockey associations. Davidson, a member of Canada’s hockey team at the 1980 Olympic Games, is the author of Play Better Hockey, a book focused on skill development. The two-month tour will kick-off in Vancouver on Friday December 3, featuring on and off-ice training from experts. Select events will include CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada personalities, as well as Ken Hitchcock. Head Coach of the Philadelphia Flyers, Dallas Stars and Columbus Blue Jackets, Hitchcock lead Dallas to a Stanley Cup victory, and has served as a coach with Team Canada on several occasions, taking home an Olympic gold medal in 2002 and 2010.

Each tour events will start on Friday night with a coaching symposium that will provide valuable insight for coaches ranging from practice planning and management to in-game strategy and execution. The focus shifts to the kids on Saturday and Sunday with interactive on and off ice clinics offering hands on coaching instructions and drills for the registered players. Each event will also include an exciting off-ice festival at each location, open to all community residents, featuring interactive games and activities for all ages. Additionally, parents will be able to attend seminars on safety, equipment, nutrition and more from instructors.

“CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA is pleased to be partnering with Hyundai to give kids, parents and coaches at the community level a chance for this ultimate hockey experience,” said David Masse, Senior Director, CBC Sports. “Hyundai Hockey Nation will deliver tips, training, games and once-in-a-lifetime memories for communities across the country.”

“Hyundai is proud to support the coaches, players and teams of minor hockey in Canada,” said John Vernile, Vice President of Marketing at Hyundai Auto Canada. “Not only are we going to help local minor hockey with their fundraising efforts, but because we are working with CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada, participants will discover a program that will allow them to develop the skills to elevate their game. Hyundai’s goal is to help Canada’s next generation of players play smarter hockey while, at the same time, celebrate a game that’s built into the fabric of Canadian culture.”
