Orange County Register: Ducks recall Hiller (comments from Burke about the Bryzgalov waiver)

Habster:

I’m still not convinced that placing Ilya Bryzgalov on waivers was done because “We’re making this move, first and foremost, to give Ilya Bryzgalov a chance to play,” Ducks general manager Brian Burke said. Brian Burke is a well respected GM who is very shrewd at wheeling and dealing so I find it hard to believe that a quality goaltender like Bryzgalov whose salary is very affordable ($900,000 remaining for this season but an UFA at season’s end) couldn’t be dealt for something in return (a prospect or 2nd-3rd round pick).
There’s got to be something more to this move as I’ve stated in the previous posting……..stay tuned folks maybe this move will be the start of other action throughout the league.

I was just listening to TSN’s Pierre McGuire on the Team 990 (Mitch Melnick’s show) and he mentioned that he has recently spoken to some GMs/assistant GMs (he didn’t mention any names or teams) who told him there was starting to be a lot more discussions/groundwork about certain players for potential player movement. Needless to say, the next few weeks leading up to the trade deadline will be fun to watch. Let’s hope that there are trades to talk about and the NHL doesn’t become another NFL whereby player movement via trades is almost non-existent.
