► Bowman signs

  • Drayson Bowman was released from his tryout contract with the Canadiens, however came to terms with the team on a one year, two-way contract. The contract is worth $575,000 while he plays in the NHL (the AHL rate is $150,000, but he will get paid a minimum $200,000.) Official press release is here.
  • In my opinion, the deal is great. It is a good depth signing for a forward who can contribute at the NHL level in expensively or add some scoring to the Hamilton Bulldogs lineup.

► Canadiens make cuts

  • On Thursday, the Canadiens reassigned five players to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL. They are forwards Sven Andrighetto, Jake Dowell and Gabriel Dumont, as well as defensemen Davis Drewiske and Greg Pateryn. Full details are here.
  • There are still 28 players remaining at training camp, 16 forwards, 9 defensemen, 3 goaltenders. The Bulldogs are currently holding their training camp in Newfoundland.

► Bulldogs win first

  • The Hamilton Bulldogs opened their training camp with the first of three games with the St. John’s IceCaps in Newfoundland on Thursday. The Dogs won by a score of 3-2 with Daniel Carr and Charles Hudon being the standouts. You can find the complete game recap at Bulldogs Hockey Report.

► Bouillon remains

  • At age 38, Francis Bouillon was happy for the invitation to the Canadiens’ training camp and remains hopeful to crack the roster.
  • Bouillon addressed the media after five players were cut on Thursday, “It’s good news, but at the same time it’s never good news when a player gets cut. You have to capitalize on those opportunities, though. I’m in a battle against a few young guys, a lot of good prospects who are going to play in the NHL in the future. I came here to earn my place. Apart from that, I can only control what I do out there. There are definitely a lot of good young guys at camp. They definitely have a clear future with the Canadiens, but I want to win a job and do what I do best. I don’t necessarily look at making another cut as a victory. We’ll know more in a few days. Some guys went down, so you’re getting closer to your goal, but at the same time there are still two more days to go before the team is finalized.”

► Sportsnet broadcast team announced

  • John Bartlett will move from radio to TV to call the play-by-play for Canadiens regional coverage on Rogers Sportsnet. The full broadcast team was announced today. The details are here.
