► Montreal Canadiens: October 17
- The Canadiens practised at 11 am. this morning in Brossard as they prepare for their Saturday night game against the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night.

- Bruins forward Milan Lucic was fined $5000 (maximum) by the NHL for an “obscene gesture” made towards fans at the end of Thursday night’s game in Montreal.
► Therapy day for Markov
- Here were the forward lines, defence pairings and goaltenders at practise this morning in Brossard.

► Habs firsts
- On Thursday night, both P.A. Parenteau and Jiri Sekac scored their first goals as Canadiens. For Sekac, it was his first goal in the NHL, a special moment that he shared with his family who were in the building.
- Parenteau celebrated his first goal in Canadiens’ uniform with a signature Briere-like fist-pump which seemed appropriate.
► Refs under scrutiny
- Refereeing a game between bitter rivals is not easy and there were a few controversial calls on Thursday night. A Canadiens goal knocked in by the glove of Lars Eller was called back (which was the correct call.)
- Fans were not so sure about the Bruins fourth goal which went in off Simon Gagne‘s skate. After review it was determined that there was no distinct kicking motion.
- But some fans were driven into a rage when Brad Marchand took down P.K. Subban with a stick between his legs. Marchand received a two minutes for slashing while Subban got a minor for embellishment.
► Club 1909 launched
- The Montreal Canadiens have launched a project called “Club 1909” aimed to bring fans closer together.
- Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer, Kevin Gilmore said “Club 1909 will give us an opportunity, for the first time, to reach out to all these fans and not just speak with them but engage them, offering them a way to get closer to the team than ever before.”

► Scary Quebec taxes
- NHL players and agents have long said that Montreal is no longer an attractive destination for free agents due to high taxes, agenda-driven media, weather and language policies.
- While P.K. Subban and Andrei Markov signed lucrative contracts in the off-season, they will lose almost half of their annual salary to taxes.
- According to sports business columnist Rick Westhead, “Montreal Canadiens players are especially hard hit by the taxman. Subban and Markov, along with goalie Carey Price, hand over a bigger percentage of their compensation than any other players in the league.”

► McCarron looks good
- As we reported in the last edition of Headlines Canadiens prospect Michael McCarron played his first game against the Erie Otters on Wednesday night.
- McCarron had a goal, was a physical force and was named the game’s third star. His London Knights beat the Otters 4-3 at Budweiser Gardens.
