On this day in hockey history… 1994 – Defenseman Lyle Odelein tied a club record for assists in a game by a defenseman, with five as the Canadiens won 9-2 over the visiting Hartford Whalers. Hall of Famer Doug Harvey had five assists on February 19, 1955. |

► Montreal Canadiens: Febuary 2
- The Canadiens had the day off today.
- Jacob de la Rose was called up from the Hamilton Bulldogs on Monday. That may indicate that Lars Eller will not be ready to play against the Buffalo Sabres. Eller suffered a lower-body injury when he was viciously crosschecked in the back by Arizona Coyotes forward Brendan Shinnimin.

► Pacioretty “changed” by Beliveau
- Growing up in New Caanan, Connecticut, Max Pacioretty was a fan of the New York Rangers. So when he was drafted by the Montreal Camadiens, he had a lot to learn about the storied franchise. In a recent interview with XN Sports, Pacioretty said, “I wasn’t as familiar with the history as I am now. Once I got drafted, it was a bit of a history lesson. I learned more and more as a lot of the legends rolled in and out of the locker room. It’s amazing to be a part of it.”
- One of the legends that had a huge impact on Pacioretty was Jean Beliveau. Pacioretty said, “Meeting him definitely changed me. It changed me as a teammate. Since that day, I’ve really taken it to heart and tried to incorporate a lot of the leadership qualities that you heard about him when he played and even after he retired. I think he gave so much to the community and to the city. He was a great teammate and a great leader. I’m just trying to learn more about him and incorporate that into my own game.”
► Price ties Roy
- Saturday afternoon’s shutout for Carey Price, was his 29th, tying Patrick Roy on the team’s all-time shutout list.
- Only four players have earned more shutouts with the Habs: Bill Durnan (34), Ken Dryden (46), Jacques Plante (58), and George Hainsworth with an outstanding 75.
► Ovechkin among elite
- Alexander Ovechkin, at the age of 29, has now reached the thirty goal plateau in his first ten seasons in the league. He scored his 30th goal of this season on Sunday against the St. Louis Blues. Ovechkin is just the fifth player all-time to have accomplished this feat, along with Mike Bossy, Wayne Gretzky, Jari Kurri, and Mike Gartner.
- Ovechkin still hopefully has many years left in his career and he has certainly set the bar high. The sky is the limit when you can score as easily as Alexander Ovechkin can.
