► Trade deadline
- With the NHL trade deadline just a short time away, GM’s have been heating up the phone lines this past week. And we also witnessed the Buffalo Sabres being involved in two significant trades already, one being the blockbuster involving Evander Kane.
- On Thursday’s Insider Trading segment, TSN’s Bob McKenzie said that GM Marc Bergevin is shopping Lars Eller and Alexei Emelin perhaps only coincidentally in line with the over-the-top criticism the two have been receiving on RDS for more than this season.
- At odds with Bergevin’s declaration of valuing character players, it is being reported that the Canadiens were one of the final teams involved in the Kane sweepstakes.
- The Fourth Period is reporting that Bergevin is showing interest in Edmonton right wingers Jordan Eberle and Nail Yakupov as well as Arizona’s Keith Yandle and Antoine Vermette.
► Première
- With Valentines Day around the corner, some may be remembering their first kiss and their first love. But nothing is quite like getting your firsts in an NHL jersey. During Thursday night’s game, Jacob de la Rose tallied his first NHL point with an assist on Christian Thomas‘ first NHL goal..
- On his first goal Christian Thomas said, “It was definitely one of the best moments of my hockey career. It’s nice to shoot one in, but any goal is a goal – I thought my first one was going to be off my skate or something like that. I like to consider myself a shooter and that’s how I like to score my goals.”
► Go play outside
- With Winnipeg set to host the 2016 Heritage Classic, Canadiens’ owner Geoff Molson, is said to be pushing for the 2017 event to take place in Montreal.
- Key to hosting an outdoor game is a suitable venue. The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve (racetrack) is said to be one of the preferred locations.
► Watch this
- Canadiens’ prospect, Nikita Scherbak, scored a filthy goal on Wednesday night for his junior team, the Everett Silvertips.
- The goal was his 23rd of the season and is a perfect example of why one should never give up on a play. He not only recovered from turning the puck over, but converted it into an impressive goal.
- The 19 year-old was drafted 26th overall in the 2014 entry draft by the Montreal Canadiens, with whom he signed a three-year entry level contract.
► Weber + Price
- On the recent Vancouver Canuck’s road trip with their dads, former Canadiens defenseman Yannick Weber bunked with Jerry Price, father of Carey. Weber has been in a relationship with Carey’s sister Kayla since the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.
- Jerry Price said, “I didn’t know Yannick at all. Carey introduced me to Yannick at the Olympics, so this is a kind of get-to-know-each-other trip. Carey thinks the world of Yannick and having met Yannick’s parents, who are terrific people, that really put me at ease. Yannick is a lot like Carey; I can see why they both get along so well. Carey’s quiet, Yannick’s quiet, I’m quiet. Kayla is much more outgoing and talkative.”
- Rather than Weber’s father joining the trip, Yannick said that his parents will meet him in New York next week on the Canuck’s next road trip.

► Just a little crush
- It’s Valentines Day weekend. The NHL asked P.K. Subban about his celebrity crushes and you may be surprised at his list. We also hear from Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Justin Faulk, Tyler Seguin, Gustav Nyquist, Patrick Kane, Ryan McDonagh, Gabriel Landeskog and Sergei Bobrovsky on the NHL video.
