 Training camp schedule: September 25

  • Colorado Avalanche vs Montreal Canadiens (Bell Centre) 7:30 pm.
  • Lineup for Thursday’s game: Coach Michel Therrien shared this about the lineup for Thursday’s game, “We’ll give (Alexei) Emelin and (P.K.) Subban time to work together on Thursday night against Colorado. They’re a duo that can play physical hockey. They’ve got one offensive guy, and one who’s a little bit more defensive. Emelin will have a chance to play on his strong side, which we believe will be a big advantage for him.”
  • Therrien also confirmed that Carey Price will play on Thursday against the Avalanche and that Peter Budaj will be in the lineup as well.
  • After the game Thursday, the plan is to give Price three full exhibition games with Budaj and Dustin Tokarski getting one game each.

Upcoming:

Friday September 26, 7:00 pm: Montreal Canadiens vs Colorado Avalanche (Pepsi Colisee – Quebec City)
Sunday September 28, 6:00 pm: Washington Capitals vs Montreal Canadiens (Bell Centre)
Wednesday October 1, 8:30 pm: Montreal Canadiens vs Chicago Blackhawks (United Center)
Friday October 3, 7:30 pm: Montreal Canadiens vs Ottawa Senators (Canadian Tire Centre)
Saturday October 4, 7:00 pm: Ottawa Senators vs Montreal Canadiens (Bell Centre)

Wednesday morning’s practice

  • Montreal was happy coming off the win against Boston, but did not dwell on it for long, as they got right back into practicing Wednesday morning in Brossard.
  • Training camp Squad C is no more as players were divided into two groups, squad A and squad B. Squad A is mainly comprised of returning veterans from this past season. Rookies who have stood out so far that are members of Squad A are: Jarred Tinordi, Nathan Beaulieu, Greg Pateryn, Jacob De La Rose, Nikita Scherbak, and Jiri Sekac. Also part of Squad A is Francis Bouillon.
  • Goaltenders Carey Price, Peter Budaj and Dustin Tokarski are part of Squad A.
  • Being part of Squad B may be bad news for Magnus Nygren, Sven Andrighetto, Drayson Bowman, Nick Sorkin and Christian Thomas.
  • Five new players were invited to camp and join Squad B: Derek Army, Shane Bakker, Jared Gomes, Maxime Macenauer and goaltender Frankie Palazzese.
  • While the writing is on the wall for Squad B, coach Therrien said, “Players in the other group will have the chance to show what they can do.”
  • Canadiens lines at practice:

Max Pacioretty – David Desharnais – P.A. Parenteau
Rene Bourque – Tomas Plekanec – Jiri Sekac
Nikita Sherbak – Alex Galchenyuk – Brendan Gallagher
Brandon Prust – Manny Malhotra – Dale Weise
Jacob De La Rose – Michael Bournival – Travis Moen

 Update on injured players

  • Michael McCarron and Jeremy Gregoire were both added to the injured list prior to Wednesday’s practice. The good news however is that Lars Eller and Connor Crisp (both also on the injured list) were able to skate together following practice. Coach Therrien said that Lars Eller should be able to return to practice in a day or two.
  • The list now consists of: Michael McCarron, Jeremy Gregoire, Lars Eller, Connor Crisp, Dalton Thrower, Stefan Fournier, and Jack Nevins.

 Practice is perfect

  • Head coach, Michel Therrien discusses the importance of practices, “Days like today are rare. There aren’t many opportunities to stage practices, and we only have six preseason games to go before the season-opener. There are a lot of things to take into consideration. We’ve made decisions and made adjustments, too. But, this has all been planned for a long time. These days are crucial. The next time we’ll have the chance to hold a formal practice is on Saturday. There aren’t many days to practice as a team. My goal is to be ready for October 8th.” Full story here
  • Although it is a crucial time to prepare for the upcoming season, the players still make a little time to goof around. After all, if they didn’t have fun doing what they’re doing, why would they bother doing it?

►  Facing old teammates

  • P.A. Parenteau is looking forward to playing his old team, the Colorado Avalanche, on Thursday evening. He spent the past two season with the Avalanche, until he was traded to the Montreal Canadiens on July 5th along with a 5th round draft pick, for Danny Briere.
