On this day in hockey history… 1922 – Montreal Canadiens traded veteran Newsy Lalonde to the Saskatoon Sheiks of the WCHL, in exchange for the rights to amateur Aurel Joliat, and $3,500.

► It begins
- Training camp begins today at the Bell Sports Complex in Brossard.
- 64 players will participate including notable invitees Drayson Bowman and Francis Bouillon.
- Day one begins with physicals and medical exams. Players will not participate in an on-ice session today.

► No Locke for Dogs
- Corey Locke is the Hamilton Bulldogs all-time leading scorer and has always been a fan favorite wherever he’s played. The 30-year old Burlington resident is looking for a job but so far, the Canadiens aren’t interested.
- When speaking to the Spec’s Scott Radley, Locke said, “Absolutely I’d come back. I wanted to come back this year. I was hoping to work out something.”
- Radley argues that Locke and 29-year-old Danny Syvret could provide the Bulldogs with veteran scoring punch that the team has been lacking. You can read the full article here.

- Canadiens players were involved in a video shoot with actor, comedian and Habs fan Jay Baruchel for Club 1909.

► Leafs look at Vail
- The Canadiens elected to pass on signing Windsor Spitfires forward Brady Vail to an entry-level contract in June forfeiting their rights to the 2012 draft pick.
- Since then the 20-year-old Vail attended the Carolina Hurricanes development camp and has now been invited to the Toronto Maple Leafs raing camp.
- Vail has 77 goals and 123 assists in 264 games for the Spitfires.
► Steelheads ink Quailer
- Former Hamilton Bulldogs forward Steve Quailer has signed with the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL.
- Quailer is a 6-foot-4, 200 pound power forward who was a third round pick of the Canadiens in 2008.
- Canadiens GM Marc Bergevin traded Quailer to the Los Angeles Kings in February for Robert Czarnik.
