 Montreal Canadiens: October 12

► Former Canadiens GM looking for recognition

  • Andre Savard served as General Manager of the Montreal Canadiens from November 2000 until the end of the 2002-’03 season before being replaced by Bob Gainey.
  • Savard is widely-regarded as having a rather undistinguished career as Habs GM trading for players such as: Patrick Traverse, Chad Kilger, Jan Bulis, Joe Juneau, Stephane Quintal, Shaun Van Allen, Sergei Berezin, Stephane Fiset, Mariusz Czerkawski and Sylvain Blouin.
  • His draft record wasn’t much better using the Canadiens first round picks in subsequent years to select Mike Komisarek and Chris Higgins.
  • In an interview with La Presse, Savard, now an analyst with RDS looking for recognition for his part in rebuilding the Canadiens, Savard saying that he solved the problems and that “Marc Bergevin received the best inheritance.”

► Montreal’s best start of the season in almost a decade

  • The Canadiens have won their first three games to start the 2014-2015 season. These three wins against Toronto, Washington, and Philadelphia give the team their best start to a season since the 2005-2006 campaign.
  • Habs players were in a good mood on the flight from Philadelphia to Tampa Bay on Saturday night.

► Scherbak looking great in the WHL

  • Canadiens first round draft pick from the 2014 entry draft, Nikita Scherbak, was sent down to the Everett Silvertips after a  great training camp with the Canadiens. Since joining the Silvertips, he has posted four goals, and four assists in four games.

► Canadiens keeping things interesting

  • Montreal seems to have made comebacks their staple thus far into the season. A win is a win and fans are thrilled with six out of a possible six points.  That said, fans, players and management would be even happier if the team could play all three periods as well as they have been playing in the third.
  • Coach Michel Therrien shared this, “We’ll have to play an intense game for 60 straight minutes. I really like the way we’ve been playing in the second and third periods. Now, our challenge is get off to a good start and impose our rhythm.”
  • Never giving up is such an important aspect of everything you face and it is a great testimony that Marc Bergevin‘s team really does have the character he has been talking about ever since he arrived in Montreal.
  • After Saturday night’s game, head coach Michel Therrien had this to say about his team, “We showed a lot of character. This is a group of guys that’s got character, and they never give up. They certainly deserved to win the way they played in the third period.”

► Bulldogs season opener

  • The Hamilton Bulldogs began their AHL regular season on Saturday night with a win in Rochester beating the Americans 6-4.
  • Forward Daniel Carr, who had a goal and an assist for the Dogs, met with some fans after the game.
