Trotter returns?: The Reusch Blog is reporting that Canadiens prospect Brock Trotter will return to the Habs from a one-year stint with Dynamo Riga of the KHL. The website claims that the Montreal Canadiens have re-signed Trotter crediting Moscow newspaper Sovietsky Sport with the story.

Trotter is a gritty, offense-first player who tallied 77 points for the Hamilton Bulldogs in 2009-10. A weak defensive game and his small stature (5’10”, 180 lbs.) are his drawbacks.

Classic cancelled: ESPN.com reports that the NHL has decided it won’t be staging a Heritage Classic in Canada in 2012. Some had felt that it would have been fitting for Winnipeg to host the event. The Winter Classic is rumoured to be heading to Philadelphia on January 1, 2012 but no announcement has been made to date.

Juniors remain in Verdun: It seems that the Montreal Juniors will be staying in Verdun for at least one more year according to a report by RDS. Owner Farrell Miller negotiated an agreement in principle to sell the Juniors to RDS broadcaster Joel Bouchard. The purchase price is reported to be in the neighbourhood of $4 million.

The deal fell apart when the QMJHL did not approve Miller retaining claim to an exclusionary zone in and around Montreal. Bouchard planned to move the team to Centre Rousseau Sports in Boisbriand.

  1. Oy… Joel Bouchard wants to move them to Boisbriand? Wow what a pain that would be. It’s not even good for Laval folks let alone us fans in Montreal as that’s the middle of absolute nowhere. Sure it’s a fancy new complex and all but it’s so far away… Fix up the bloody Verdun arena. It’s right next to a metro and a nicer place would totally justify the ticket prices. Sigh..

Happy to see Trotter back. He did alright for himself over in Latvia.
