All Habs News: White, Maxwell, MacIntyre, MacMillan

All Habs News — March 1, 2011

Ryan White was held out of practise on Monday prompting trade speculation. In reality White was temporarily sent (on paper) to Hamilton to make room for Drew MacIntyre and was recalled when rosters expanded at 5 pm.

Former Canadiens prospect Ben Maxwell has been called up from the Chicago Wolves. He will be wearing No. 49 for the Atlanta Thrashers and may be in the lineup to face his former mates on Tuesday night when the Montreal Canadiens visit Philips arena.

The Thrashers sent goalie Drew MacIntyre to Montreal for defenseman Brett Festerling, in Pierre Gauthier’s only trade deadline day move. Festerling was obtained from Anaheim in the Max Lapierre trade.

MacIntyre has been sent to Hamilton to replace the injured Curtis Sanford. MacIntyre backed up Sanford when the two played in Vancouver. MacIntyre is also familiar with Alex Auld having played with him in Winnipeg.

In 2008, as a member of the Manitoba Moose, MacIntyre scored an overtime game-winning goal vs. the Chicago Wolves.

Former Canadiens Maxim Lapierre and Chris Higgins will reunite in Vancouver.  As one commenter suggested “Lock up your daughters!”  GM Mike Gillis is banking on Lapierre’s former junior coach, Alain Vigneault, being able to get the 25-year old forward from Saint-Leonard to play a more disciplined, less selfish game.  If not, Lapierre may be running out of destinations as his act wears thin.

The bus carrying Canadiens prospect Mark MacMillan and his Penticton Vee teammates went off the Coquihalla highway on Monday after a minor accident with a snowplow.  Game three of the Vee’s playoff series was delayed by 30 minutes.  MacMillan had six points in the first two games of the best of  seven series with the Vees leading 2-0.
