The Habs’ road trip continued on Wednesday as they traveled to Toronto for a showdown with the Maple Leafs.  It was the third meeting between these two teams, both of which had been notable.  After losing the first game 6-0 and Max Pacioretty being bitten by Mikhail Grabovski in the second game, the Habs came back strong by winning this game 5-2.  Alexei Emelin put Montreal on the board in the first period, followed by two goals by Max Pacioretty, a goal by Brendan Gallagher, and an empty-netter by captain Brian Gionta.  Michael Ryder suited up for the Habs once again after a trade with the Dallas Stars for Erik Cole.  Oh, and that Grabovski guy?  Carey Price, with 21 saves, denied him a penalty shot goal.

Saturday night brought the action back to the Bell Centre in a game against the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins.  The first period set the tone for the night, a fast-paced frenzy of skating.  Brandon Prust potted the Habs only goal in the opening twenty minutes, with the game tied 1-1 at first intermission.  But in the second period the scoring floodgates opened, with Tomas Vokoun letting in goals by Max Pacioretty, Brian Gionta, and P.K. Subban, while the Canadiens’ defense demonstrated sloppy and lazy play which led to three Pittsburgh goals as well.  Goals went back and forth again in the third period with David Desharnais and Gionta scoring two more, both of which the Penguins answered.  The overtime period was short-lived, with the Habs defense breaking down again.  Final score was 7-6 in favor of Pittsburgh.

The Canadiens lace up their skates right away, traveling to Boston on Sunday for a rivalry matchup at TD Garden which will be a battle for first place in the Eastern Conference.
