Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final took place in New York and the Habs found themselves down early yet again. Carl Hagelin scored a short-handed goal in the first period, but Francis Bouillon went top shelf on Henrik Lundqvist in the second to put the Canadiens on the board. Dustin Tokarski made some stellar saves, but the defense wasn’t solid enough in front of him. P.K. Subban scored one in the third period, and with the tally knotted at two each the game went to overtime. Martin St. Louis potted the game winner. Final score: Rangers, 3-2 (OT). On Tuesday, the Bell Centre was packed with fans ready to cheer their team on in a must-win game. The Habs gave them plenty to be happy about. Alex Galchenyuk kicked things off with a power play goal, followed by an even-strength goal from Tomas Plekanec. Max Pacioretty followed suit in the second period, with Rene Bourque’s power play goal putting the Habs up 4-1 and chasing Lundqvist out of the net. But things got a little tense as the Rangers surged back with three more goals. Bourque soon put fans at ease with another goal in the second frame, then another in the third to complete a natural hat trick. David Desharnais finished the night off with an empty netter. Thursday night’s game, however, was a much different matter. With the Rangers up 3-2 in the series, the Canadiens needed to storm into Madison Square Garden with determination. Unfortunately, things didn’t turn out so well. The first period ended scoreless, maintaining hope that the Habs would score first – something that would be a much needed confidence booster and crowd silencer. It was Dominic Moore, however, who lit the lamp first, and it would be the only goal scored in the entire game. The Canadiens saw their run to the Stanley Cup Final cut short with a shutout loss.
