The Habs kicked off the week with the final stop on their western tour: Winnipeg.  The Canadiens took an early lead in the first period with Brandon Prust and P.K. Subban both scoring goals.  But it wasn’t all good news in the opening 20 minutes.  Max Pacioretty went down with a lower body injury and had to be helped off the ice by his teammates.  He did not return to the game.  The defense and goaltenders then went to work for most of the remainder of the matchup, with Danny Briere potting an empty net goal in the waning seconds for his first goal with the Habs.  Carey Price made 36 saves, garnering his first shutout of the season.  Final score: Habs, 3-0.  (Read our full game recap here: Habs on the Board Early, then Price Shuts the Door)

On Thursday night, the Canadiens finally returned to the Bell Centre for an offensive-filled game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.  Again the home team found themselves with an early lead as Rene Bourque scored a power play goal and Michael Bournival scored his first career NHL goal, both in the first period.  The second period began in an equally exciting fashion, with Andrei Markov scoring a short-handed goal, but the the Blue Jackets’ offense woke up and began returning the favour.  With 1:07 remaining in the game, and the score knotted at 3-3, Tomas Plekanec put the Habs up by a goal and put the game away in the final seconds with a short-handed empty netter.  Final score: Habs, 5-3.  (Read our full game recap here: Special Teams Prominent, Plekanec with the Winner)

Finally, the Nashville Predators came to town to take on the Habs on their home ice.  This time it was the Preds who got on the board first, scoring on a power play just after the first penalty in a 5-on-3 had expired.  In the second period, Briere headed to the dressing room after taking a hard hit to the head from Eric Nystrom, to which the young Habs players responded by Brendan Gallagher putting a puck in the net after Lars Eller set it up in the paint.  The Canadiens hoped that the third period would bring much less time for them spent in the penalty box, as the first forty minutes saw them on the penalty kill quite often.  The youngsters lit the lamp yet again, this time with Eller scoring what looked like a good goal, but was overturned after an official review.  Troubles continued as Prust then careened awkwardly into the end boards with his shoulder and went to the dressing room to be evaluated.  With just a little over 90 seconds left in the game, Seth Jones scored the go-ahead go for the Predators.  Final score: Nashville, 2-1.
