The team kicked off a four-game week on the road in Manhattan for the New York Rangers home opener at the newly renovated Madison Square Garden.  After a scoreless first period, Tomas Plekanec opened the scoring with a power play goal in the second period.  Alex Galchenyuk followed with a goal of his own in the third which went under review for a potential kicking motion.  After being ruled a good goal, the Rangers could not mount a comeback of any kind and found themselves shut out in their first home game of the season.  Final score: Canadiens, 2-0. The next night found the Habs back on home ice as they took on the Dallas Stars in the Bell Centre.  The visiting team outshot the Canadiens on this night, but Carey Price was once again solid in net limiting Dallas to only one goal.  Michael Bournival and Rene Bourque each potted a goal for the Habs.  With Travis Moen out due to a facial injury, Louis Leblanc was called up from Hamilton.  Final score: Canadiens, 2-1. Fast forward to Friday night when the Canadiens took to the road for a tilt against the Minnesota Wild.  The Wild took an early lead in the first period to which Brendan Gallagher responded with a quick goal of his own just a little over 20 seconds later.  P.K. Subban and Brian Gionta both netted goals in the third period, but it wasn’t quite enough to hold off Minnesota.  Final score: Wild, 4-3. The week’s second back-to-back set of games concluded with the Canadiens traveling to Colorado for a late-night matchup against the Avalanche, although it was hard to tell if fans were yawning due to the late hour or the stifled game play.  After another scoreless first period in which the only real action came from Ryan White and George Parros each engaging in some fisticuffs with their opponents, the Habs came out with more sluggish play in the second and found themselves with no goals going into the second intermission.  Finally, in the third period, Gallagher potted a power play goal, ending Colorado’s streak of 22 consecutive successful penalty kills.  Alas, with the offense not producing much and the Habs defense breaking down the Canadiens realized their second loss in as many nights.  Final score: Colorado, 4-1. 2nd Star:  Andrei Markov

Markov tallied three assists in four games and has a team-leading plus-6 rating.

3rd Star:  Alex Galchenyuk

Galchenyuk registered one goal and two assists this week and played his first game at centre this season against Colorado.
