Game Report

What’s the best way to respond to a 6-0 embarrassing loss at the Bell Centre? Take a 5-0 lead into the second intermission and hold on for a win.

The Canadiens needed this victory and so did their fans, so enjoy!

This season the Canadiens have typically managed to play well for one period per game but that has rarely been the second. Tonight, Montreal exploded for four goals in the middle frame on just three high dangers scoring chances. Ryan Poehling, who continues to solidify his place in the lineup, scored twice in the period.

The Predators looked out of sync not having played since Tuesday. Nashville’s game against the Senators in Ottawa on Thursday was postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak.

Artturi Lehkonen was the Canadiens best player in every period being involved all over the ice. Lehkonen had a goal and an assist in just over 16 minutes of icetime.

Sam Montembeault picked up his first win as a Canadien with a strong first period performance.

Even Joel Edmundson had a hand in tonight’s victory despite remaining out with injury.

For years the Canadiens have hit the ice accompanied by “Fix You” from Coldplay. This season the Habs’ game presentation staff had ditched the traditional opening opening song to the dismay of many fans and apparently the players. Prior to tonight’s game, Edmundson sent a message to Canadiens Communications chief Paul Wilson to restore their introduction tune.

“Fix You” played and the Canadiens won. Coincidence?

Up Next

The Canadiens don’t play until Wednesday when they take on the Capitals in Washington D.C. just ahead of American Thanksgiving.

What Did They Say?

Post-game Quotes

Dominique Ducharme

  • “I liked our commitment. In general, it’s positive, but we have to come back to work on Monday and prepare for Wednesday’s game.”

Brendan Gallagher

  • “We are going through a difficult period. It’s good to see the guys with the smiles on their faces and I hope that will continue.”

Ryan Poehling

  • “I know I have to trust myself. If I make mistakes, the worst that will happen is a referral to Laval, but I love this place. I believe that mentality helps me and I’m doing well so far.”

Artturi Lehkonen

  • “Winning is more fun than losing.”
