Anthony Richard used his speed to score his first NHL goal just 1:48 into the contest. After enduring a stretch of five game without scoring in the first 40 minutes of a match, it was a welcome change. After a disjointed opening frame, the Avalanche came out with purpose in the second period and did not loosen their grip. Colorado manhandled the visitors outshooting the Habs 23-7 in the second and third periods. Richard was known for two things in the AHL: scoring goals and taking bad penalties. He accomplished both in this game earning a lazy hooking penalty two minutes into the third frame. Former Canadien Artturi Lehkonen evened the score just seven seconds into the power-play. The Avalanche pressed for the goal ahead goal in the third but Jake Allen stood tall helping his squad earn a point as the two teams went to an extra frame. In overtime, Jonathan Drouin failed on a one man rush turning over the puck and falling in the corner in the Colorado zone. That created a two-on-one for the Avs. Kaiden Guhle did his job on the play taking away the pass but Mikko Rantanen beat Allen with a shot he would like back. Up NextThe Canadiens will play their last game before Christmas on Friday night in Dallas against the Stars.Plus▲ Joel Armia, Cole Caufield, Kirby Dach, Johnathan Kovacevic, Jordan Harris, Nick Suzuki, Jake AllenMinus▼ Juraj Slafkovsky, Jonathan Drouin, Josh Anderson, Arber Xhekaj, Chris Wideman, Evgenii Dadonov, Christian Dvorak, Mike HoffmanGame PreviewCheck out the game preview here: Lehkonen vs Habs | PREVIEW: MTL @ COL |
