Excerpt from TSN:
The National Hockey League came down hard on Dallas Stars superpest Sean Avery Thursday, handing him a six-game suspension for making inappropriate public comments prior to the Stars’ game in Calgary on Tuesday.
The move is retroactive to Tuesday’s game against the Flames, with four more games to be served.
“Mr. Avery has expressed remorse for his recent comments and has sought a professional anger management evaluation,” NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said in a league-issued statement. “I will require that he follow through with that process as a condition of his returning to the ice and that he complies with any and all recommendations.”
Avery and Stars co-general manager Brett Hull met with Bettman Thursday in New York after being given an indefinite suspension on Tuesday.
TSN: Stars’ AHL affiliate in Manitoba not interested in Avery
I was quite disappointed that Avery’s suspension took effect before the Calgary game. Perhaps the league would have been better served if Bettman had suspended the instigator rule for that game.
Not sure if the NHL rulebook covers this, but would a Dallas player get 5 minutes for punching out Avery?
Just a thought.
Rocket,
I’m hoping that Hicks adds another 6 games to Avery’s suspension.
I’m sure there have already been tussles in the locker room and/or in practices.
As McGuire suggested on The Team 990, the KHL may be the only available option for Avery at this point, sort of a Ray Emery scenario.
After riding the buses in Russia, Avery might actually appreciate what he has in the NHL……whether it will change his personality makeup is debatable though!!! He needs some serious therapy either way……he likes to play with DOLLS, man!!!
