Yet, sadly, the message isn’t getting through. The team continues to take too many needless penalties. And on the other hand, after ending an 0-for-23 stretch against Anaheim, the Montreal power-play continues to sputter. Tampa Bay built a 4-0 lead after 40 minutes including two goals with the man advantage. Meanwhile, the Canadiens pushed their streak to five straight games without scoring a first or second period goal. And for the first time this season, the Habs have lost three in a row. That drops Montreal to last place in the Atlantic division. After some early season success, the Habs have begun to slide in the standings. They are now 24th in the NHL. Let’s end with a stick tap for Kirby Dach. In a game where the Canadiens were buried by the Lightning, he won the matchup against his counterpart and helped drive the play for his line. For the good of the Canadiens future, Dach needs to remain at centre for a good, long stretch of time. Up NextPost-game the Canadiens announced that David Savard has been placed on injury reserve, retroactive to December 4th. The Canadiens now must endure seven straight road games beginning on Monday against the Arizona Coyotes.
