Boyd Placed on Waivers, Lapierre Promoted

All Habs News for November 8, 2010.

The Montreal Canadiens have placed forward Dustin Boyd on waivers today. Boyd was signed as an unrestricted free agent by GM Pierre Gauthier on July 1, 2010 to a one-year contract.

Boyd scored one goal in nine games and was a healthy scratch five times this season.

Jacques Martin said that Boyd will not be sent to Hamilton meaning that the Canadiens are looking for a team to pick up his contract.  Once claimed, the Canadiens can call-up a player from the Bulldogs to complete their 32-man roster.  (Be sure to vote for your call-up choice in All Habs Poll of the Week.) Speculation is rampant that instead, Gauthier  may use the cap flexibility to make another move.

Boyd and Maxim Lapierre have both looked lost in recent games and ended up in the All Habs doghouse for their poor play.

Coach Martin sees it differently promoting Lapierre to the second line in practise to play with Scott Gomez and Andrei Kosititsyn. The first line will be made up of Tomas Plekanec, Mike Cammalleri and Brian Gionta.

Jeff Halpern, Mathieu Darche and Benoit Pouliot remain on the third line.  Lars Eller, Travis Moen and Tom Pyatt practised together as the Habs fourth line.
