An excerpt from TSN (Darren Dreger):
Sources tell TSN Dan Boyle has signed his “no-trade” waiver and has agreed to a trade to the San Jose Sharks.
Before the NHL will allow the trade, a player with a no trade must sign a waiver which must be submitted to the league in advance of the trade call. The paper work is now in the hands of the NHL. Pending NHL approval the next step will be the finalization of the deal.
In return for the 31-year old veteran defenseman, it is believed Tampa will receive a package that will include 23-year old defenseman Matt Carle, a first round draft pick, a prospect and a 4th round pick.
Habster:
WOW,…..Sharks GM and former Norris Trophy winner, Doug Wilson certainly knows how to put together a solid if not spectacular defensive corp.
How this sound for a defense: Dan Boyle, Rob Blake, Marc-Edouard Vlasic, Craig Rivet, Douglas Murray, Kyle McLaren and Christian Ehrhoff.
The group certainly has a very nice balance with the offensively gifted Boyle, Blake and Erhoff and shutdown defensemen like McLaren, Murray and Rivet. Add into the mix an all-round player like Vlasic and we can safely say Doug Wilson has built a multi-talented group to rival the Red Wings’ defense corp.
Hey, leave it to a former Norris trophy winner to understand how to build his team from the blueline out with a solid goaltender like Evgeni Nabokov to boot!!!
The Lightning are re-building very quickly with a solid two way defenseman like Matt Carle (he’s only 23 and is much better than Boyle in the defensive zone), a 2009 1st and 4th round picks (the 2009 draft could potentially be stronger than this year’s) and a very solid two way defenseman prospect, Ty Wishart who was the Sharks first round pick in 2006.
